More about Like-a-local

Like-a-local.com offers travellers the opportunity to experience the real life in the city using themes:

GO: Meet with the true connoisseurs of local life, the locals themselves.

EAT: Taste the local delicacies at a local's home or go out for a food experience with a local.

Our site provides you the entire range of local activities. By using EAT! or GO! you can step into the daily life of a local and taste, see, and experience the local culture. You can create your own experience ranging from one single activity to a complete Like-a-local weekend.

What is unique about Like-a-local?

·         The information you get about the city is up-to-date and comes from a real local

·         You experience the city as a local instead of doing it as a tourist

      ·         You get to know the city faster and in a fun way

Testimonial Pure - Paul & Lucie,

"What a great time we had with the two of you in Amsterdam!!  Kay and I will always remember your hospitality, great food, and that red light tour thru the neighborhood.  As Judy Garland once remarked...."Toto, we are not in
Kansas anymore!!!" Not that we know a lot about Kansas since neither Kay nor I have ever been there.

Thanks also for the book on Rembrandt.  You both contributed to the fond memories we brought home with us. Call on us if you make it to the States!
Enjoy the pics."

KAY & WOODY MOSBY

How does it work?

1. You can search for a local activity in the city of your choice directly on the home page. For instance, you are planning a weekend trip to Barcelona and you are looking for an activity to discover the city the local and quick way, then search for “cruising Barcelona”.

2. When you have found the activity you like, click  on “book”.

3. You will enter the request form where you can fill in the details about your travel dates and also indicate a date of your preference for the activity. (* mandatory fields)

4. After you have filled in the form, it will be sent to the local responsible for the activity. He/she can then reply to your request.

5. The local replies to your request:

- The local is available on the date of your reference
- The local proposes another date within the period of your stay.
- The local is not available, you might look for another fun activity
- When a local does not respond within a week, the request expires

6. It might be that the local cannot reply instantly. Don’t worry; this activity is not always his/her day time job, they act as a "local" out of personal interest and passion for their city.  They will respond in due time.

7. After the local confirms the request, you will receive an email with the payment details.

8. As soon as the payment has been confirmed, you will receive a voucher with all details about the activity and the meeting point. This voucher is also the proof of payment.

PS) Keep in mind that requests could be arranged according to availability of the local. The sooner you get in touch to describe your preferences, the more locals are available.

    Who runs Like-a-local?

Like-a-local was started by three primary school friends: Mandy, Marieke and Esther. The idea of Like-a-local was conceived during one of our city trips. After yet another "frustrating" experience of having yet another diner between tourists to discover nice local eateries only on the very last day of our trip, we decided we needed locals to share their information with us on the best local places and attractions. Preferrably as early as possible in our trip.

For this web site, however, the locals are much more important than the initiators! Check out who they are here.
